Dr. Daniel Button, President & CEO, Board Member
Dr. Dan Button is currently the President and CEO of Innova Dynamics. This is his 3rd nanotechnology company focused on the launch of enabling optical components for the display and touch industry. Dan has 30 years of experience building new businesses in the consumer electronics, printed electronics, and clean tech industries. This has been underpinned by bringing to market new materials-based technologies and establishing new industry standards that have enabled the LCD industry, step changes in LCD TV color, paper-like displays, and under-the-hood electronics. He has done this both in first–tier Fortune 500 companies – DuPont, Corning, Rohm and Haas [Dow] - as well as in numerous start-ups from MIT and most recently U Penn – E Ink (sold to PVI, now E Ink Holdings), Boston MicroSystems (sold to Pall Corporation), QD Vision (now launching Color IQ™ technology into Triluminos® LCD TVs with SONY). Dan has played an instrumental role in launching businesses and companies that first define and then dominate their markets with respect to share and profitability. To finance his early stage companies, he has helped raise $100 million spanning venture capital, strategic investments and government funding. Dan has a BS in Engineering from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from MIT in Materials Science and Engineering. He currently serves as a member of MIT’s Visiting Committee for its Department of Materials Science and Engineering. |
Arjun Srinivas, Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, Board Member
Arjun brings a background spanning finance, materials, and entrepreneurship. Arjun became one of the early members of Livingston Securities, the first nanotechnology focused investment bank, where he advised a top 3 pharmaceutical company on nanotechnology-enabled medical solutions. He later spent time in Private Equity at Susquehanna Private Equity Investments, where he was involved in acquisitions, sourcing and valuing deals, and advising portfolio companies. In 2007 Arjun co-founded Innova Dynamics based on his senior thesis work at the University of Pennsylvania with Alex Mittal. After spinning Innova Dynamics out of the UPenn, he and the founding team proceeded to secure nearly $30,000 in awards at the 2008 Wharton Business Plan Competition (2008), ~$350,000 in seed financing (2008), and $4,000,000 in Series A funding (2010). Serving as President and Chief Operating Officer through 2012, Arjun continued to develop the technology platform, secure key hires, and establish Innova’s core business. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology with a BS in Economics in Management from the Wharton School and a BS in Engineering in Materials Science Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In 2010, Arjun was recognized by Business Week as one of “Americas Best Young Entrepreneurs” (along with his co-founders). He holds numerous patents issued and pending both nationally and internationally. |
Ryosuke Kuwada, VP of Business Development & Sales
A Japanese Citizen, Ryosuke Kuwada is a 30-year veteran in electronic materials businesses serving the global display market. Before joining Innova in 2013, he started his career at Du Pont Japan (US Chemical Company subsidiary) as a tech service engineer in electronic materials. He has led various display projects such as PDP, FED, SED, Plasma-LCD as a product manager. Ryosuke was also the first employee in DuPont electronic materials appointed as Global Business Manager outside of the USA. After 17 years’ service at Du Pont, he joined E Ink Corporation in Cambridge, MA (MIT spin out). As Global Sales & Marketing VP, he contributed towards technology commercialization of the Amazon “Kindle Launch” in 2007 as well as a successful Exit (~$400M Merger by a Taiwanese LCD company). At Toppan Printing Corporation (Japanese $15B company), he was appointed as Head (GM) of Corporate Planning Division and was responsible for whole company portfolio management. Ryosuke holds a BS from Keio University (Amorphous Science) and studied at Graduate School of Waseda University (Finance) & Keio University (Media Design). |
Andrew Loxley, PhD, VP of Product R&D
Dr. Andrew Loxley is responsible for R&D efforts in the development of proprietary novel materials and ink products for transparent conductive electrodes. Prior to joining Innova Dynamics, Dr Loxley was the Director of Technology Development at CLEARink Displays, a reflective display start up. Prior to CLEARink Displays, he was Director of New Technologies at Particles Sciences, a service provider to the pharmaceutical industry. Before Particle Sciences Andrew led lithium ion battery development efforts at A123 Systems where he joined as one of the first 10 employees and helped the company to reach a successful IPO. Before A123 Systems, he was Principal Scientist at E Ink, where he helped create the first and only successful reflective electrophoretic display technology, leading to an ~$400M exit for E Ink. Andrew earned his B.Sc. in chemistry and polymer science from the University of Sussex, UK, and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry focusing on micro-encapsulation from the University of Bristol, UK. He is an inventor on more than 40 patents, author of two book chapters and several peer reviewed and trade-journal articles. His outside interests include wooden boat sailing, photography, cycling, and mind-body practices that bring balance and well-being. |
Tom Credelle, VP of Application Engineering
Tom Credelle is a 40-year veteran of the display industry, having held senior management positions in R&D, Product Engineering, Marketing and Business Development, and Operations. After receiving his MSEE from MIT, he joined RCA Labs and was a key contributor to many fundamental flat panel technology developments. At GE, he and his team built the world's first million pixel color LCD and ruggedized the displays for use in advanced fighter aircraft. He joined Apple in the early days of notebook computers and was responsible for all LCDs used in Apple products. Tom has spent the past two decades as a senior executive in startup businesses, both within large companies (Allied Signal and Motorola) and at startups (Alien Technology, Clairvoyante, and Puredepth). He joined Innova Dynamics in 2012 to lead the engineering developments aimed at the touch screen market. He presently heads the Application Engineering and Device Performance Groups, working closely with Innova's customers to commercialize the Innlay(tm) technology. Tom is a Fellow of the SID and holds over 75 US patents. |
Bijhan Kalhori, VP of Operations and Process Engineering
Bijhan Kalhori is a 30 year veteran of the consumer electronics industry. Innova Dynamics is his 3rd nanotechnology company focused on the launch of enabling optical components for the display and touch industry. Before joining Innova Dynamics, he began his career at Polaroid Corporation holding various engineering roles in Optics and Electronics manufacturing, leading to senior program management roles responsible for development and launch of new products and technologies. After 23 years of service in Polaroid he joined E Ink Corporation as Director of Display Development to lead the development & scale up of E Ink displays, resulting in the launch of Amazon Kindle and a successful ~$400M exit. Subsequent to E Ink he joined QDVision as Director of Operations, responsible for building a world class global supply chain and high volume manufacturing operation. This led to a successful launch of first Color IQ™ product for Sony Triluminos® LCD TVs. Bijhan holds a MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. |
Richard Arndt, VP of Finance
Rich is a financial executive with extensive M&A, international, operations and systems experience in high tech manufacturing companies. Rich’s career includes 17 years at Corning, Inc. in a progressive series of financial roles including 4+ years in Tokyo as Chief Financial Officer for Corning’s Japanese operations and Worldwide Controller for the Active Matrix LCD glass business. While in Japan, Corning’s Japanese operations grew from $45 million to $150 million per year. In support of this growth, Rich raised $125 million in Japanese financing including equity and debt and led the development of the financial organization and IT infrastructure laying the foundation for Corning Japan’s future growth. At Eaton Corporation, he directed Finance and IT for a $500 million semiconductor capital equipment business. At MKS Instruments, a highly engineered instrumentation company that grew through mergers and acquisitions, he played instrumental roles in all phases of M&A. During 12 years with the company, he progressed to the Corporate Development leadership position reporting to CEO. Led 6 acquisitions and 3 divestitures and extensively involved in 7 other acquisitions with total transaction value in excess of $800 million. During this time, also provided Company’s business leadership for a major ERP implementation. |
Michael Young, Co-Founder & Director, Technology Development
Michael Young is a technology entrepreneur who co-founded Innova Dynamics and Hydros, spin-out companies from the University of Pennsylvania. He and his co-founders Alex Mittal and Arjun Srinivas brought the company and platform technology from the lab bench and $20M in VC funding to the market. As CTO of IonArmour, he builds partnerships with Fortune 500 companies to commercialize embedded anti-infection technology. Michael has secured multi-million dollar contracts and grants from the US Department of Defense and National Science Foundation. Bringing experience from IBM Microelectronics and previous ventures, Michael is an active advisor, investor, or board member to other startups. Michael is co-inventor of the Innova Dynamics technology portfolio and surface-embedded silver nanowire transparent conductors. He holds dozens of patents and patents pending having impact in printed electronics, optics, displays, medical devices, water purification, and consumer products. He is winner of the United Nations International Mondialogo Gold Prize, and is one of "America's Best Young Entrepreneurs" by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. His background spans the PhD program in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University (dropped out to co-found Innova Dynamics), and BA in Physics and BSE in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. |
